Week in review for computer news

Google now offers a movie showtime search. Get it while its hot. On a side note, not news, they have a Scholar search which apparently only searches .gov and .edu domains. Might be useful some day.

Microsoft plans to sale anti-virus software some time in the future. I think they should just put that money into fixing Windows, and then we wouldn’t need anti-virus software.

Microsoft plans to release IE7 sometime this summer instead of with their next operating system due to raised concerns about security. I think this looks like a step in the right direction.

Apple cuts iPod prices

IBM pledges $100 million to Linux. What that means for you is more free stuff. IBM also broke a deal with Zend to bring a new development environment to PHP web developers. Not applicable to you, but it is to me.

Microsoft plans to change its Activation Policy; PC makers will be required to activate copies that are installed by the PC maker. Those licenses cannot be activated by the web activation any more.
